New York Fashion Week: Spring 2014

Today I broke one of my own rules by wearing sweatpants not only in public, but in Downtown Denver. However, I think I should be able to get away with it considering today was my first day of track practice at what seemed to be the crack of dawn. On another note, as promised I am back for my second day of posting about New York Fashion Week: Spring 2014. So today I planned on posting my 10 favorite looks, but in no order because choosing just  10 was hard enough. Yet it seems that I couldn’t even choose just 10 because somehow I ended up with 13… I guess the more the merrier, so here are my 13 favorite looks from New York Fashion Week: Spring 2014.

New York Fashion Week: Spring 2014

Considering it has been quite a while since I have posted you would think that I have an excuse, but in all honesty I don’t. With school kicking into gear I have found myself caught up in school work, and when I don’t have school work all I want to do is relax. However, now that I am going to school in the city, I am finding myself in absolute fashion bliss.

If you didn’t know I live in Colorado, and while it appeared like the state was up in flames at the beginning of the summer, now it seems like it is going to become an ocean. The Colorado floods have been quite an experience, but I have been fortunate enough to not be living in an area where a lot of damage took place. Once the major rain was done I took the opportunity to go splash in puddles because that is something I did not want to miss. The amount of devastation left behind by these floods is heartbreaking, and I am still trying to grasp all the damage done. However, you must remember, “There are positives in every situation, but it is up to you to find them.”

While Colorado began to flood, one of my favorite events was occurring in New York. Can you guess what it is? That’s right, Fashion Week. While I have yet to attend, I WILL attend one day, and nothing is going to stop me. Since it is one of my favorite events, I decided to make it fashion week on my blog. So every day I will be posting about something pertaining to New York Fashion Week, Spring 2014. Since I am still not able to choose my favorite shows, I am going to start off by writing about my two favorite presentations. Red Valentino and Kate Spade New York absolutely blew me away, and I would sell my entire wardrobe just to own the clothes from them.

Deborah Lloyd keeps amazing me with the designs she presents for Kate Spade New York, and I have yet to be disappointed. From top to toe I am in love with the collection, and I just wish that I could have every single piece! The presentation, being grouped by color, was gorgeous and simplistic, which only makes me love the collection more.

While overall I love everything, there are some items that I am head over heels for. The outfit with orange jacket and watercolor pants still makes me drool every time I see it. While each individual piece is quite simple, together they make an outfit that is show stopping. The bow on the jacket makes me reminisce of when I was younger, and had to have a bow in my hair.  Adding to the outfit is a simple oxford, which you can never go wrong with. I have been searching for the perfect pair of sneakers, and the studded pair seems to be exactly what I am looking for. Can I just have the whole thing please?

Black and white is the perfect combination hands down. No ifs, ands, or buts. Add a bit of Parisian elegance to the combination and you have reached perfection. These are just a few of the reasons I love the classic black and with ensemble presented. I have a minor obsession with fascinators, and while I am not the biggest fan of stripes, this outfit is to die for. The clutch is a must have, and I might make it the splurge for my spring wardrobe. I think I might die without it.

The outfits with the lemon print are definitely my favorite group. They are just so cheerful looking, and the styling for each outfit is perfection.  The lemon printed top paired with the white shorts is so simple, and the hat is the perfect accessory to top off the outfit. While I am not sure I could pull off the lemon printed dress, I could definitely pull off the sneakers paired with it. I would get a smile on my face every time I looked down at my feet if I wore those. As for the lemon printed skirt with the sunny yellow top, I would wear that on every cloudy day. Not to be forgotten are the yellow patent leather heels with the gold chain detailing, hello gorgeous! The jewelry and handbags overall are darling, and I would own each and every one of them.

I only became aware of Red Valentino, and boy have I been missing out. The Spring 2014 collection is one of the most feminine and delicate collections I have seen, and it was love at first sight when I saw it. Just like the Kate Spade New York collection, I want it all. The floral printed jacket and shorts paired with the simple peplum top is beautiful. The floral print is so delicate, yet it has a great punch of color. Where can I sign up to have the print made into wallpaper?

As many of you know, I am not the biggest fan of leggings, but Red Valentino makes me want to be, especially when they are paired with a gorgeous ballerina-esque peplum top. The ruffled peplum, which looks very similar to a tutu, is so delicate, and I love it. As I look closer at this outfit it seems that it might actually be a leotard with a skirt over top. Anybody know which it is?

The floral printed button down dress has to be one of the prettiest dresses I have ever seen. The fuller skirt gives it a bit a softness, while the collar gives it a bit of structure. The bright colors of the floral print are lovely, and I want this pattern as wallpaper too! The simple bow belt adds even more femininity to the outfit, and tops the dress of perfectly.

These two presentation have left me questioning whether I should sell my wardrobe, which means that they are amazing. I would do anything to own a single piece from either of these presentations! Come back tomorrow to see even more things that I loved from New York Fashion Week. Until tomorrow…

Sarah

My Summer Must Haves

So this summer I was horrible about posting considering it has been ten weeks since I last posted…oops. I wanted to post weekly, but whenever I had a day off from work, all I wanted to do was absolutely nothing, especially since my job consisted of working with kids for ten hours straight. Now that I am in the dog days of summer, I am looking back over the past months and am realizing that I had a few must haves. So here is a list of my summer must haves.

Rimmel lipsticks have become my new favorite. Since I don’t wear heavy eye makeup, I like to have a bold lip, and these lipsticks have great pigment. Not only do they come in great colors, but they smell amazing, which seems kind of odd considering that they are lipsticks and not lip glosses. Rimmel has a line of lipsticks by Kate Moss called Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick, that are to die for and I have two of them. The first one I bought is 109, which is an orange with a peachy undertone. The second one I bought is 111, Kiss of Life, which is a bright red with blue undertones. In the picture I am wearing Kiss of Life, along with BareMinerals, and my favorite sunglasses, but I will talk about those a bit further down. Not in the Kate Moss line, but still apart of the Lasting Finish Lipsticks is 070, Airy Fairy, which is a neutral (not nude) lip color. I wear these almost daily, and without a lipstick on my lips feel naked.

Neutrogena Clear Face Sunblock is an absolute must for me during the summer not only because I am afraid of any sort of skin damage, but also because I am so pale and burn so easily. The sunblock is reasonably priced and is a great quality. It is break-out free and rubs in completely so it doesn’t make my skin whiter than it already is. I wear both the SPF 30 and SPF 55, and would highly recommend either to anybody looking for a sensitive skin sunblock. I used this on days that I knew I was going to out in the sun quite a bit, like on pool days or at track meets.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture SPF 15 is also great. On days when I am just out and about and not constantly in the sun, this moisturizer is great. It isn’t oily and makeup goes on easily over top of it. I was lucky enough to get a bunch of sample size bottles from a college night at Target, and have yet to purchase an actual bottle. But when I run out of the sample bottles, I definitely plan on purchasing some more.

BareMinerals foundation has been my go to foundation since I started wearing makeup. I
can use it very lightly just to slightly cover any spots, but you can put a bit more on for great coverage. Both ways feel super light on my skin, and not cakey, which is great for summer. The foundation comes in a loose powder in either original or matte, and also comes in a pressed powder. Recently I started using the concealer as well, and am very happy with the results when put on dark circles under my eyes. BareMinerals comes in a range of colors for both warm and cool skin tones, and as I mentioned, go on easily over the Neutrogena sunscreens.

The perfect summer sunglasses are cheap and cute, which I have managed to make the perfect
collection of. My favorite pair is my black slightly cat-eyed sunglasses, which I bought and mentioned in my spring break haul post. When I’m feeling a bit spunkier I decide to throw on my navy with turquoise polka dots pair. I even have a pair of brown tortoise shell sunglasses from the 80’s that my grandma gave me. Over the years I have managed to collect so many pairs, and no two are alike.

My Fossil watch that I purchased this summer has quickly become my favorite piece of jewelry to wear, and if I forget to put it on for the day my wrist feels empty. I love how the white band is so bright with the silver of the watch.  Also it feels more classic because I just simply glance at my wrist to catch the time while most others have to pull out their phone.

Keds are such a classic shoe, and I have fallen in love with them. The red pair I purchased a few months back is so easy to throw on with a dress or a pair of jeans. Plus if I am going anywhere with a lot of walking involved, I can easily throw on my Keds and look fashionable instead of throwing on a pair of trainers. At this point I am even considering another pair, but can’t decide on what color. Any suggestions?

My Ralph Lauren pinstriped short sleeve button down has become a summer staple because it is so
easy to throw on with a pair of shorts (especially my new J. Crew shorts). My mom knows me so well when it comes to what clothes I like, so when she saw this cute little shirt in pink and white, she knew that it was perfect for me. Dressed up or dressed down, this shirt was a must have for my summer wardrobe.

I purchased two pairs of J. Crew chinos and am so happy with them. They have an inseam of 5 inches, which covers my bottom, and the width of the leg is the perfect fit for my athletically built legs. Just like my button down, these shorts are easy to throw on for any kind of day, and look super cute. I even feel comfortable wearing them to church! They come in so many different colors, but I managed to stick with just the white and the pink, but I would definitely purchase more.

Summer is one of my favorite times of the year because it is so easy going, and I am quite sad to say that it is coming to an end. But the end of summer means that school is fast approaching and fall is right around the corner. Sweater season here I come! Until Next Wednesday…

May Pinterest Picks

So I know it has been 2 weeks since I last posted, and I completely blame the fact that I got out of school and became lazy. So I apologize for that, but I am back and ready to blog about fashion all through the summer. When I posted my last month’s Pinterest Picks I wasn’t sure how it was going to go over, but after the great response I decided to make it a monthly thing. I even decided to add another category to the post, hair and makeup, because I have a new obsession with them, especially makeup. So if you have any makeup brands or products you love, you should let me know. Anywho, now I should probably get back on topic, so here are my May Pinterest Picks.

Day To Day

When I was younger I was under the impression that red heads couldn’t wear orange or red, but nowadays I love wearing these colors. When I saw this outfit I fell in love with it, and the next day I planned an outfit with this pin in mind. While I wore a checkered shirt similar to the one in the pin, I paired it with a pair of orange trousers. I got so many compliments on my outfit that day and was told that my outfit lit up the room. I am so glad I pinned this pin because it gave me inspiration for a new favorite outfit.

Continuing with the monochrome theme is this blue outfit. From the bag to the skirt I want this entire outfit. I especially love the statement necklace worn with the collared denim shirt. Glad I pinned this as well because I am now trying to plan an outfit from this pin, and it is proving to be great inspiration.

 Right Off The Runway

Valentino makes some of the most gorgeous gowns, and this one is no exception. It is so simple with only red fabric, but the construction of it is stunning. I love this not only because of the gown, but because the entire look of the model is so simple. Who would have thought that such a simple look could be so absolutely glamorous?

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, the Dolce and Gabbana has so much going on, yet it is just as stunning. I pinned this because if I had one of those crazy weddings, this is what I would wear. From what I have read, in real life the grey is a bit darker and the flowers are a bit more yellow, but I love it even in the photo.

Let’s Get Some Shoes

I whole heartedly worship J. Crew and everything about them, which is why I immediately pinned these shoes when I saw them. These pumps are from their Italian shoe line and have a BIG price tag to them, so I will continue admiring them on Pinterest instead of in my closet. However, if I had the money I would definitely purchase the leopard print shoes. Thinking about it, I would probably purchase the sparkly shoes, too, because what girl doesn’t like sparkle?

For some time now I have had a pair of dream shoes in my mind that I always want, but never purchase. A pair of black patent leather platform pumps can always make me drool, and these are no different. Something about the shine of the black against the pop of red just makes me go crazy for these Louboutins.  One day I will probably splurge on a pair of these, and I will love them forever.

Rings And Things

This Kate Spade bag is to die for! I Love the pop of orange along with the floral pattern. I think this is the ultimate summer bag, and I am now on the hunt to find something similar to it. I think it is the perfect size and can be carried by the strap or by the handles, which makes it a go to bag. If I find one similar to this I will definitely let you all know.

I am a sucker for vintage rings, which is why I love this ring. It is so simple, yet absolutely stunning. I would wear this everyday whether it was my wedding ring or just a regular ring. I would love to have this as my wedding ring though because it is so different yet classic looking.

Hair and Makeup

Since I cut my hair into a pixie I have always wondered what it would look like I have bleached it. However I do not have the guts to be a blonde because I am so attached to my red hair. I guess you are either attached to your hair itself or the color of it, and I happen to love being a ginger. Not only do I love the cut of this blonde pixie, but the colored tips give it a bit of fire and sass, and that is a must if you are going to rock a pixie.

I don’t think a simple makeup look could be any better. With the pop of an orange lip and the pop of the blue eyes, I think this look is perfect for me. With that being said, I have to admit that I went shopping for orange lipsticks and bought two, but I still want more. My favorite that I bought is the Maybelline Color Whisper in Orange Attitude, and I highly recommend it. If you have a coral/orange lipstick that you are loving you should let me know in the comments below.

No Fashion Involved

This wedding cake immediately caught my eye and is easily my favorite wedding cake I have ever seen. I am not a fan of cookie cutter weddings, and this is definitely something different. Also I am not the biggest fan of frosting, so that eliminates that issue. When I showed it to my dad he complained that his favorite part of cake is the frosting, so to eliminate that problem I told him if I had a cake like this I would have a bowl of frosting on the side just for him.

I’ve been told that I don’t have much of a sense of humor, but this made me laugh out loud. I am a massive fan of Ryan Lochte, but I also know that he is no genius. You can easily learn that in the first minute of an episode of What Would Ryan Lochte Do? I came across this pin right before finals week and whenever I was on the verge of a breakdown when studying all I had to do was look at this and I was in a much better mood.

From this post I learned that my color of the summer is going to be orange. From clothes to makeup the color is popping up everywhere! I have no complaints though because orange is my second favorite color to pink. If you want to pin any of these pins or see my massive collection of other pins you can check out my page at http://pinterest.com/reelgirly/ and even follow me if you would like. Until next week…
